Product Development Manager at Larson-Juhl
Larson-Juhl
October 2017 - Present
Below is a compilation of products launched while at Larson-Juhl, the largest manufacturer of picture frame moulding and all other products + accessories for the Custom Framing Industry. I developed the following products from initial concept to market launch and oversaw the entire development process. Hands-on in all aspects of design, including directing on-site finish development with suppliers. Worked directly with Product Management to assure these are a sellable product and that there’s a demand in the market.
I also designed + developed new marketing tools (such as Trend Decks, Tearsheets, and other branded collateral) to help promote design thought-leadership as well as drive sales with curated product information and marketing. Also created merchandising displays to help promote product.
Patent Collection
Contemporary lacquer moulding collection. Originally brought to LJ by Italian supplier but expanded upon by Product Development Team. Added additional finishes (matched to real patent leather), prototyped various profiles, aligned with current style trend (Glam), fit customer needs, and filled product portfolio gaps.
Clay Collection
Modern foiled moulding collection with heavy patina to create a clay-like appearance. Warm clay tones inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, her art, and Ghost Ranch. Developed concept + finish from the ground-up, in-house with Larson-Juhl’s Italian factory. True innovation moment and gap in the market.
Lars Collection
Modern Traditional moulding collection featuring stylized Dutch and Stanford White compo patterns (developed with suppliers from the ground-up) that could only previously be found in the Closed Corner Market. Updated Gilding techniques by using contemporary gold + silver leaf found in today’s interiors + products.
Hans Collection
Modern rustic White Oak moulding collection featuring warm earthy stains that highlight the wood’s natural characteristics. Developed from the ground up, this collection had the longest path to launch. It was born out of 2 previous concepts that had been killed due to poor customer feedback. yet still had elements of design + innovation that could be carried through to a successful product. I leaned heavily on previous wood knowledge + understanding obtained from my previous job designing custom high-end wood furniture.
West Coast Art +
Frame Trade Show
WCAF is the largest trade show in the US for the Custom Framing Industry. Lead design process, execution, and installation for Larson-Juhl’s booth. Came up with wall concepts to showcase new product in frame designs, as well as innovation in merchandising for retail custom framing.
Larson-Juhl Headquarters Product Room
When Larson-Juhl decided to move it’s HQ I was tasked with designing the Product Room. This was handed over as a blank 45’ x 30’ space that needed to serve multiple functions. Stakeholders agreed it must store + display all of Larson-Juhl’s existing products, current projects/products in development, display key account plan-o-grams, hold a materials + reference library, and serve as a conference area / meeting space for all parties. I created a 40 pg FF&E book that held floor plans, shop drawings for specific designs, and spec’d furniture for Larson-Juhl + ASD|SKY.
